Like the lighting, absolutely dislike the background. Our eyes just getting dragged to the lovely wall plugs, not sure what we supposed to be looking at. Whats with the pillar in front of her? Dang such a busy background, adds nothing t the shot. For these reasons, ABSOLUTELY NO LIKEY.

Excellent Lighting here. I understand what suby is saying about the background. It does not seem to fit with the absolute glam of the model and the spectacular lighting job you have doen here. Your lighting here is Excellent DRaW.

DrAjao: sometimes the background need not fit in with the glam.

that's why sometimes you see models elegantly dressed but posing near a dumpster or building ruins.

the problem is if the background like the substers accurately noted is distracting...but then by now you should know i'm a bit lenient when it comes to 'distractions'.

for a truly professional shot (paid shot)...i'd've used a longer lens so as to blur the background further, a faster 'syncable' flash lighting so as to up my shutterspeed and further lower my aperture. and i'd've put in more time burning and bluring out the unwanted elements.
also i'd've posed the shot and chosen the location waaay before hand (as opposed to shooting with a dozen other photogs)

but today i have a gut feeling that the model and the lighting will be enjoyed first, and by the time you realize the background is 'offensive' it'll be too late.

I understand how the background can be distracting, but I honestly hadn't paid it much attention - but then I look at a picture first through a passerby/everyday person's eyes and then a little more critically through a photographer's eyes. At first glance, I'm sold on this shot. My eyes go from her face, along the length of her neck and down the chain on her back. Its very glamorous.

The shot works for me. Here is how I see it - I went out on a date with this lovely model in Atlantic city and as we left the restaurant and headed back to the car we decided to do a quick shoot in this empty abandoned garage and here goes your the shot. Nice work Doc. Maybe if your title was different a lot more folks will appreciate the image.

Yeah, I just read Suby's comment...in my opinion I don't the background is that bad..and there was certainly nothing you could have done about it. I think you mentioned this was a shootout for an event...you did not set up the shoot right? In my opinion you made good use of what you had available..its a lovely shot.
